5th ANNUAL CELBRATION OF
TEDDY BEARS’ PICNIC DAY
Take Your Teddy Bear on a Picnic/
To a Tea Party/or to the Beach
“If you go down in the woods today.
You’re sure of a big surprise.
If you go down in the woods today,
You’d better go in disguise.
For every bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain because
Today’s the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic.”
From Teddy Bears Picnic – Lyrics by Jimmy Kennedy
As a child Teddy Bears Picnic was one of my favorite songs. I have a vinyl record recording of the song that I played on my Decca record player. To this day the song immediately conjures up images of teddy bears with picnic baskets romping through the woods together. It is a song that makes my heart resonate with pure joy and delight.
As I thought more and more about the vision of teddy bears having a picnic and the joy and healing that teddy bears bring to children of all ages on the earth, I was inspired by the angels to wrap all that celebration and healing energy into a special day on which everyone in the world could take time to have a picnic or tea party with their favorite teddy bear. Or even take their teddy bear to the beach! Just as the angels are healing guardians, so too are teddy bears. They are fuzzy miracle workers! Just like the angels, they are messengers of love. Many wonderful charitable organizations gift teddy bears to children experiencing challenges. One such organization – Sojourn Bears – distribute bears through local hospitals and cancer centers. Their motto is “Making Cancer Bear-able.”
A precious angel friend of mine – Martha Vinyard (yes that is her real name) helped me organize a celebration for the first 1st Annual Teddy Bears’ Picnic Day on Saturday, August 5, 2004. The event was held in the backyard of Martha’s home. As you can see from the pictures on this page, the young and the young at heart spent an afternoon together with their favorite teddy bears. We brought our teddy bears, picnic baskets, blankets and quilts and our sincere desire to fill our lives with an afternoon of playfulness.
So perhaps in honor of the goodness of teddy bears, on Saturday, August 2nd, 2008, you’ll decide to orchestrate a celebration of Teddy Bears’ Picnic Day in your community.
